2010 Painting Intensive Schedule

Concept, Drawing & Painting
3-Day Drawing/Painting Intensive
Friday, July 16 to Sunday, July 18: 10AM to approx. 6PM
Faculty: Lon Clark, Laura Harden

The art world is fascinated with the idea of concept - but what does concept mean in relation to drawing, painting and mixed media? This workshop is directed toward emerging visual artists, art students and artists wanting to re-engage essential issues. There will be slideshows, eye-opening exercises, critiques and individually-related explorations. The workshop will cover definitions of concept from subject matter to approaches to painting and mixed media. It will fill three fast-moving days exploring the relationship of the visual to the verbal, the authentic to the artificial and the swing of the pendulum in a changing art world.

Tuition: $275/3 days + $25 Registration Fee, model fees included. href="http://sfstudioschool.org/workshop_registration.php">registration. Cancellations must be made in writing 10-days before first day of workshop for a full tuition refund. Registration fee is non-refundable.

Landscape Into Art
4-Day Landscape Painting Intensive
Thursday, August 5th to Sunday, August 8th: 10AM to approx. 6PM
Faculty: Lon Clark, Laura Harden

The Landscape Intensive Workshop confronts time worn traditions through new approaches to seeing and working. Light, form, space, color, value and imagery will be integrated through forming, a process of uncovering individual affinities with the elements of painting and the natural world. Each day we will work at Bay Area locations offering a variety of motifs. Specific exercises, presentations, several individual critiques per day, shared lunchtime discussions and group critiques as the work progresses throughout the workshop will maintain the pace of hands on investigation of the subject. The history of painting will be referenced in presentations to encourage the conceptual understanding of landscape as a genre. Participants can expect to notably advance their relationship to the concept, subject and form of landscape painting through theory and application. Participants should plan to bring bag lunches and to work into the early evening light.

"I wanted to thank you for a truly phenomenal and provocative week...Thank you both for the dynamic presentations and discussions..."

    - Gywneth Tripp, Landscape Intensive and to have created a terrific environment for the creative process. In looking at other student's work I see in each one of us, a unique individual at a point on a continuum of her creative path. I am definitely enriched by having this experience. Finally, your lectures are terrific and I so much enjoyed every one of them. I am so grateful for the clarification of many terminologies that were discussed.
