• Will I get credit in my degree-granting program for Associate Study?
Associate Study gives a student an opportunity to get credit for independent study, directed study or an internship if the student’s home school agrees to grant credit. Each student must arrange such credit with his/her home school and it is up to the home school to determine whether the Associate Study program fits its requirements for giving credit.

  • What aspect of Associate Study would my home school give credit for?
This must be determined by the student's home school. However, logically speaking credit for Associate Study would be conferred for independent study, directed study or an internship because:

    1. The student gains expert individual direction regarding his/her work.
    2. The student participates in a structured process of study.
    3. The work being done complements the curriculum of the student's home school.
    4. The student gains practical experience in multiple aspects of his/her work.

  • Can I take Associate Study separate from getting credit?
If a student prefers, or if for some reason his/her home school should not grant credit for Associate Study, the student may still do Associate Study independent from his/her home school. To qualify, the student apply for the Associate Study program and be accepted.

  • What are the criteria for acceptance to Associate Study?
In all cases acceptance for Associate Study is based on relevance of the program to the student's work and the willingness of the student to undertake the specifics of the Associate Study program. The criteria for acceptance includes mutual agreement that the student and the student's work, as well as general skill level, are a good fit with the program and the philosophy of the school overall.

  • What is the difference between Associate Study and adult education?
Associate Study presupposes a substantial involvement with the visual arts. It might be thought of as a hands on seminar-like experience intended to provide students insight and experience related to the visual language of drawing, painting, photography and/or mixed media. As such it is intended for students who are seeking fulfillment in their work as visual artists, no matter what level of experience they may currently have attained.
