- Values: Drawing & Photography
December 2006
through February 2007 Open to the public
This exhibition at the San Francisco Studio School gallery reflects the range of interests
emphasized by the school through a diverse group of work. Artists shown include Aaron Siskind,
William Klein, Philip Pearlstein, Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, Robert Henri, Bernard Plossu, Josef
Koudelka, Oliver Gagliani, Pauletta M. Chanco, Lon Clark and Laura Harden. The exhibition
presents visual art across a spectrum representing different disciplines from painting to
documentary photography, unified by the intensity or clarity of the artist's statement through
visual means. Conceptual or narrative concerns are realized through a deep individual
involvement with the nature of the medium. The exhibition, which shows work created over the
period of a century serves to remind the viewer of the difference between art created as an
autonomous entity versus art subordinated to the external pressures of illustration, style or
trend.
