The Art of Street Photography
Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12: 9AM to 5PM
Faculty: Laura Harden, Lon Clark
Street photography involves acute observation, intense distillation and the art of improvisation. This 3-day total immersion workshop concentrates on the fluid and purposeful photographic interaction with the constantly changing rhythms of the city, the neighborhood and the street. The urban environment, people, time of day, selective seeing and the individual vision of the photographer will be investigated through a series of slides shows, exercises and continual hands on photographing and editing. The relationship of street photography to documentary photography, reportage and the photo essay will be investigated and each participant will be supported in arriving at a particular view of the subject and its interpretation.
The workshop will draw on the multiple-cultural fabric of the neighborhoods bordering the school, the variety of architecture and societal contrasts to frame photographic meaning. The interaction of form and narrative will be considered and through a phased process of conceptualization and implementation, participants will arrive at a cohesive series of photographs.

"A brief note to thank both of you for facilitating a unique experience for me, your guidance and approach to the art of photography was right -on! As a beginner photographer, I never felt criticized, or out of the loop. I left feeling that my approach to my work is valuable and at the same time the process increased my awareness of my potential for growth and need for development."
