A book of an artist's work has a long tradition of presenting a painter’s identity in graphic form. This course explores the artist’s monograph as a unique tool for creating and refining each student’s work as a visual artist.
Participants will create drawings, paintings or collages in relation to a concept for their own book. Style, narratives, visual forces, color and continuity will all be considered as elements that affect a body of work. An easy-to-use template will be provided to develop a series of preliminary page layouts offering fresh views of students’ artwork as a whole. Individuality will be cultivated throughout the process and reinforced through in-class, hands-on experiments.
Please note: While this course explores the creation of an artist’s monograph in relation to students’ work it is not intended as a publication or graphic design class.
Materials: Students will choose their preferred medium. Technical information will be introduced on an as needed basis. A general materials list will be supplied upon registration. In addition to art materials, students should have access to a camera (for example a camera phone), a tablet or computer, and a printer.
